Our Wedding

Our journey began in Monsieur Lallemand's French class at Los Gatos High School on the very first day of freshman year...let's just say it was a little while ago. Life took us on plenty of twists and turns. We even lived a handful of blocks from one another in San Francisco for a time without knowing it—back when you actually had to bump into someone on the street to reconnect. Then in 2015, we started catching the occasional Giants game together, reigniting a friendship whose roots traced back to those high school days. Over the years, we kept in touch, caught more baseball games or a movie, and somewhere along the way, our timing seemed to fall into place. Get-togethers became more frequent, feelings grewand the connection from long ago quietly unfolded into something so lovely and unexpected. Todd likes to say it was all part of a strategic, decades-long plan. In 2022, we then realized that we were happy and grateful. At that point, we knew what it was - and that's when we started calling it: us. Finally, we can't wait to start this next chapter together, surrounded by the people we love most. We're so excited to celebrate with you in Sayulita, and even more excited for all the adventures still to come.

Our Story

About Sayulita

Sayulita is a small town on Mexico's Riviera Nayarit that's brimming with charm, color, and heart. It's the kind of place where the days are sunny, the food is incredible, and the rhythm of life is just a little slower (in the best way). This hidden gem was one of our first travel destinations together and we were won over by it immediately—it's the kind of place that stays with you. That's why we chose it for such an important moment in our lives. Sayulita is known for its laid-back atmosphere, artistic spirit, and warm, welcoming locals. It's beautiful, friendly, and wonderfully funky. But we also want to be honest: it's not a luxury resort town. It's a bit rustic, which adds to its appeal, but also means things aren't always picture-perfect. You might hear music drifting from the plaza at night or wake up to a rooster's call in the morning. The town gets lively on weekends, and occasionally the power might flicker or the plumbing will remind you you're in a quaint beach town in Mexico. It's all part of what makes Sayulita...Sayulita. So come with an open heart, a little flexibility, and maybe a flashlight for good measure—and you'll see why we love this place so much.

Late February in Sayulita is warm in high 70F to 80F by day and breezy in the evening, so please bring a light layer if you'd like.

Our Venue- Villas Piedra Blanca

We were in Sayulita looking for the right venue and we discovered Villas Piedra Blanca on our last day...it seemed fated. Perched on tranquil Nanzal Hill with breathtaking ocean views and stunning sunsets, it's the perfect intimate setting we'd envisioned. Plus, it's right across the street from the villa where we'll stay during wedding week. The timing is ideal as we might even spot migrating whales during our celebration. We can't wait for you to experience this magical place with us!

Meet Our Chef: Roberto Escudero of Sabor Con Magia

One of the things that mattered most to us when planning our wedding was the food—not just great flavor, but a meal that felt rooted in the place that enchants us and shared with the people we love. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Chef Roberto Escudero and his incredible team from Sabor Con Magia preparing the food and drinks for our celebration. Roberto’s passion for locally inspired cuisine, fresh ingredients, and handmade everything was exactly what we were looking for. From our first conversation to an unforgettable tasting, we felt completely at ease—like we’d found a true partner. His team’s attention to detail, creativity, and warmth make this so much more than just a catered meal. It’s a part of the experience we’re most excited to share with you.

Meet The Band: Charlie Higgins & Sunset Station

We're thrilled to have Charlie Higgins and Sunset Station provide the soundtrack to our celebration! Charlie is a talented American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who, along with his band, has built a devoted following in Mexico's Bahia de Banderas with their blend of roots rock, blue-eyed soul, and west coast Americana. In a wonderful twist of fate, they're actually the reason we discovered our venue. While researching wedding locations, we stumbled across a video of them performing at Villas Piedra Blanca and immediately thought, "Where is that place? It looks amazing!" Now we get to celebrate at that very spot with the band that led us there, playing a mix of their original songs alongside rock and 80s classics that will keep everyone dancing under the Sayulita stars.

The Airport

The closest airport to Sayulita is Puerto Vallarta International airport, which usually takes about 45-50 minutes away by car. IMPORTANT NOTE: When you leave customs at PVR and head towards the outside, you will probably experience a lot of people trying to convince you to hire a car from them. And when you tell them you already have a car, they'll try to convince you that this is where you're supposed to "check in" for your reservation. Ignore them and keep walking. If you're using Sayulita Luxury Transportation (below), they will always meet you outside the airport doors with a sign with your name.

Sayulita Luxury Transportation

A great way to get from PVR to Sayulita is to make a reservation with <a href="https://sayulitaluxurytransportation.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sayulita Luxury Transportation</a> (SLT). We have used them many times and they're very reliable. Each SUV can hold about approximately 6 people + luggage (depending on the people and the luggage!). SLT will have a driver meet you outside the airport. Round trip from PVR to Sayulita and then back at the end of your trip costs about 4000 pesos, total. As of this writing, that was about $200 round trip for the group. They provide waters and beers in the car. On your way to Sayulita, they even include a 40-minute stop at the Mega grocery store so you can stock up on food and beverages. Sayulita doesn't have any big markets and the prices can be more steep at the local bodega's. We recommend you coordinate flights with others so you can share a ride with SLT. But they also said they will do their best to coordinate people who contact them who are coming to our wedding and arriving around the same time.

Golf Carts

The most popular mode of transportation in Sayulita is the golf cart. You probably don't want to have a rental car here to get around town, parking can be tough. The whole town is very small and you could walk across the whole town in about 30 minutes. The challenge can be the hills. There are two main hills in town- Nanzal Hill (where our wedding and brunch will be on the north side) and Gringo Hill (just above the plaza in town). These hills are steep in places and you might want a golf cart to get you up and down. ** It is recommended that you get a cart with a lithium battery if you'll be going up steep hills. If you rent a cart, make sure they know you'll be doing so and they'll recommend the right one. Some hotels and BnB's include golf carts for free or for an extra fee, so check that out. And if you want to reserve a golf cart for your trip, you can contact <a href="https://www.oceangolfcarts.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ocean Golf Carts</a> and use the code REPEATOGC24 for 15% off. Ocean Golf Carts will also be offering free golf cart rides for our guests up and down Nanzal Hill on our wedding day (details to follow). Guests WILL NOT be allowed to drive up and down the hill that day (for safety and parking reasons).

Rideshare (Uber)

Last time we were in Sayulita, we used Uber to get around a couple of times and it worked well (and was really cheap). There aren't a lot of drivers yet and you might wait a little longer than you're used to, but it can be a good option if you want to visit the nearby town of San Francisco (the locals call it San Pancho). Last we looked, Lyft doesn't exist here yet.

You can see the different parts of Sayulita on the picture above. For many reasons, we recommend that you stay in the North End of town, including up on Nanzal Hill. Sayulita is a beautiful little town and you could walk from end-to-end in 30 minutes. But the Central area, surrounding the Plaza and the baseball field/park can get loud and crazy, especially on the weekends. The North End is much quieter and our wedding activities, including the ceremony, will be on Nanzal Hill. Nanzal has some great rental properties, especially for groups, and some really nice views. Just be aware that you might want to rent a golf cart if you stay up here because the hill is steep...as long as you're comfortable driving one on such a steep hill! We recommend talking to our friends at Sayulita Rentals or checking out the Sayulita Life website to find the right rental for you. We also have found some good Airbnb's. We've also listed a couple of well-rated hotels in the North End. Please let us know if you have any questions at all. And if you rent one of these properties, let us know so we can take it off the page. North End Hotels

A bigger, upscale hotel with pools, bars, a restaurant and a spa. They also have on-site golf cart rentals.

Nanzal Hill Properties (Very near wedding venue)

One of the things we love most about Sayulita is the food—fresh, flavorful, and full of heart. It’s not fancy in the way a big city might be, and that’s part of the charm. Meals here are often shared on breezy patios, at cozy cafés, or around a plastic table piled with tacos and cold drinks. You’ll find everything from amazing seafood to wood-fired pizza, from morning smoothie bowls to late-night churros. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and just really good. Here are a few recommendations to get you started.

Especially good for fish tacos. We've had some inconsistent meals here but overall it's good.

Boat Trip to Las Marietas Islands

On Thursday, February 19th (the day before the wedding)... Sail away with us for a sunny escape. We’ve chartered the Ally Cat, a beautiful 56-foot sailing catamaran, for a 6-hour trip out to the Marietas Islands. We’ll head out from the marina in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle (about a 30-minute drive), and once we’re aboard it’s all about sunshine, sea, and zero stress. This day is designed to be effortless. Round-trip transportation is included, and once we’re on the boat lunch and refreshments will be served, inclusive of tax and tip. All you have to do is show up ready to relax. We’ll cruise to the back side of the Marietas—a stunning, calm area perfect for snorkeling, paddle boarding, swimming, and stretching out on deck. It’s also humpback whale migration season, so there’s a good chance we’ll see whales along the way. What to bring? Keep it simple: swimsuit, towel, sunglasses, a hat, and reef-safe sunscreen. A light cover-up never hurts for the ride home. The approximate cost is $160 USD per person, all-in, and it may shift just a bit depending on our final headcount. If you’d like to join, please let us know ASAP so we can reserve your spot and lock the numbers. Final details TBD but we should be leaving from a central location in Sayulita at around 7:45am on the day of the trip, coming home around 3:00pm.
